The Career Start Program helps you combine work and study through a traineeship or apprenticeship. Delivered by Australian Business & Hospitality Training (ABHT), this program is designed to help you gain practical skills while earning a wage and working towards a nationally recognised qualification.

Who is Eligible?
Eligible Students must meet the following criteria:
i. are currently employed as a Queensland apprentice or trainee (under a registeredtraining contract) in an eligible apprenticeship or traineeship Qualification through this Program;
ii. not currently be enrolled in a Qualification;
iii. not be a school student; and
iv. not exceed a maximum of two government-funded apprenticeships/traineeshipswithin a 10-year period.
Student Contribution Fees
Please Note: The funding provided by Queensland Government doesn't cover the full cost of training. Student contribution fees are the non-government financial contribution to the cost of the training and assessment services provided by Australian Business & Hospitality Training.
Student Contribution fees under the Career Start pathway for Trainees and Apprenticeships are set at (non-concessional) $1.60 per nominal hour or (concessional) $1.12 for each unit of competency.

Who is Eligible?
Eligible Students must meet the following criteria:
i. be a permanent Queensland resident;
ii. be an Australian citizen, or Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), or temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen;
iii. not currently be enrolled in a Qualification;
iv. not have previously completed a certificate III or higher-level Qualification within the last 10 years for a general training pathway; and
v. not exceed a maximum of two government-funded apprenticeships/traineeships within a 10-year period
Co-Contribution Fee
Given the benefits that accrue to individuals from training, students undertaking certificate III level training and non-concessional students undertaking lower-level vocational training, will be required to contribute to the costs of their training through a co-contribution fee.

Who is Eligible?
a) Australian, New Zealand citizens or Australian permanent residents
b) be 15 years old or over
c) live in Queensland and have left school
d) not hold a certificate IV or higher-level qualification, not including qualifications completed at school and foundation skills training; and
e) not be enrolled in another qualification, not including foundation skills training.
Co-Contribution Fee
Given the increased benefits that you can gain from higher-level training, you are required to contribute to the cost of your training through a co-contribution fee.
The fee may be paid on your behalf by an employer or another third party but cannot be paid or waived by the training provider, or any organisation related to the training provider, unless approved by the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training.
